8 steps to Live Longer And Healthier

Any time the American Heart Association publishes new guidelines about how to live a longer, healthier life, I sit up and take notice. Admittedly, it hasn’t always been that way. I will freely admit that I didn’t take my health as seriously as I should have. I justified a lot of things away. “I still look pretty good” I would say to myself, looking at myself in the mirror, knowing full well I didn’t. Of course, it was a slow change. I got heavier over a long period and that led to less exercise. More stress piled on top of that. And we all know where this story went. [See: 3 products that transform your acne blemish skin 360 degree] So, a week or so ago, the AHA published a list of eight things you can do to live a longer and happier life. Most of these things are common sense. But they are good reminders anyway. 1. Know your risk.  Smoking, kidney disease or a family history of early heart disease can increase your risk. 2. Eat a healthy diet.  Eat v...

Hidden Hormone Disruptors In Beauty Products Might Be Behind Your Bad Skin (And Health)

When it comes to trying to be healthy, we’re pretty clued up on what we’re putting into our bodies. We know that junk and processed food is bad for us, and anything that’s been sprayed with pesticides could probably do with a good rinse before we eat it. But do you know the real effects of what you’re putting on your body? Turns out, our favourite everyday beauty products might be secretly packed with ingredients that are actually wreaking havoc with our hormones. Your endocrine system i.e. the system in which all of your hormones are secreted into the blood, is affected by everyday toxins and pollutants. These pollutants trick our hormones into acting in different ways than they’re naturally supposed to behave— and so they’re called ‘endocrine disruptors’. These changes to your hormones can cause anything from irregular periods, hormonal breakouts and (in very extreme cases) birth defects, illnesses and cancer. Yikes. Social media influencer Jelayne Shelton's inspiration to live a healthier life

According to Jelayne Shelton, her challenge to live a healthier life, first started with a number.  "I thought setting a number for myself would make it more valuable as time went on throughout the health journey, then I realized there were so many more things happening that kind of surpassed that number on the scale," Shelton said. Weighing over 250 pounds at the start of this year, Shelton decided it was time for a lifestyle change. Her inspiration? Running her first marathon in December.  "The marathon completely changed my life. It really opened up my eyes to seeing how I was treating my body, both mentally and physically. Completing the marathon just told me I could complete anything else in my life," Shelton said.  A victim of anxiety and depression in the past, Shelton says she used to turn to food as a way to cope. Now she incorporates exercise into her daily routine, including walking in her neighborhood and squeezing in time at work.  ...
